We are headed toward Tokyo with about 55 pounds of gear each. My suitcase weighs in at 33 pounds and my backpack is 22 pounds. Here goes.

Books, Pie Pans, Don’t Ask Why

Moving completely overwhelms me. I look around the house and cannot even begin to think about where to start.
My husband handles things much better. He is an engineer and he packs like an engineer. He picks up the things and puts them into the boxes and then picks up more things, and puts them into the boxes, in an effort to perfectly fill every available space in a box, like tetris. And so our boxes are not categorized by type of item or room in the house, but by items that fit, perfectly, together. The rocks from our outdoor heater are not packed with the gardening supplies, but with picture frames. Thankfully, he also uses very specific labeling, so that we will know to look for the vacuum bags in the box with the winter clothes.

Dan also had a couple of extra days to pack, while I was still finishing up the week at work, and so, consequently, he has done more than his fair share, and our conversations go like this:
“Where is the spatula?”
“Oh, you mean the long-skinny? It’s packed.”

Shots Shots Shots Shots Shots
Getting a bunch of shots does make your arms sore. But that is WAY better than getting polio.
Erin got:
- Meningococcal
- Polio
- Typhoid… One less way we can die after we ford the river in Oregon trail.
- Rabies
Kaiser Permanent Copay = $20 (high-five for having Kaiser)
Dan Got:
- Meningococcal
- Polio
- Hep-A (Erin had already gotten that vaccine)
- Typhoid (oral — he’s a wimp)
Washington Travel Clinic (among the best self-pay prices in the region — most US health insurance does not cover travel vaccinations) = $430
Our Favorite 412 Wedding Pictures and a Video!
In celebration of our first anniversary, we sat down and attempted to select our favorite wedding pictures. We ended up with a collection of 412 pictures from our wedding weekend, including a few from the slideshow we were showing at the wedding and a few from our honeymoon for good measure. Thanks to everyone who shared their pictures with us.
Reflecting on our wedding one year later, we recognize it as the best day of our lives (cliche, we know) and we cannot thank all of you enough for being a part of it. Looking through the pictures, we remembered all of the amazing things that everyone did to ensure that the day went off without a hitch, from flying across the country, slicing fruit for sangria, making and hanging signs, welcoming guests, performing the ceremony, and corralling people for pictures, to taste-testing the margaritas, bringing the glow sticks down for the party, grabbing an air mic and your man bits to ensure that the dancing didn’t slow when the music took an unexpected turn, and arranging our get-away transportation. We are very grateful that we were able to share the day with all of you.
And now for the pictures, drumroll please….
Our Wedding Anniversary Photo Collection
And the video! Fair warning — though Dan has acknowledged that this is the craftiest thing I have ever done, he cannot believe that I made a twenty-minute wedding video and has assured me that only our immediate family members will ever watch it. For anyone else, here is a cheat sheet so that you can fast forward to your favorite parts:
- Slideshow (mostly old family pictures): 00:00 — 02:00
- Pre-wedding activities, rehearsal, etc.: 02:00 — 03:00
- Pre-ceremony, getting ready, first-look, family and party shots, arrivals: 03:00 — 07:40
- Ceremony: 09:15 — 12:05
- Post-ceremony, more family shots, cocktail hour, dinner, toasts: 12:05 — 14:20
- First dances, family dances: 14:20 — 15:10
- The real party, dancing, and photo-booth shots: 15:10 — 18:55
- Honeymoon and footloose shots: 18:55 — 19:55

Mobile-friendly Wedding Events Schedule
When your friends are both awesome and nerdy, you get your very own mobile wedding website! Go to http://hitched.herokuapp.com/ now to get an easy-to-view wedding schedule, complete with maps, on your cellphone. Thanks, Ben!
Updated Transportation Information
The site now includes transportation information!
Options for getting from Denver International Airport into downtown are now on the Lodging & Transportation page.
We don’t recommend driving to the ceremony, if it can be avoided, because there is limited parking. The Burnsley Hotel is within easy walking distance of the ceremony location and the hotel will also offer shuttle service to the ceremony.
If you are driving, you can find a map of the ceremony location and the overflow parking lot on the Ceremony & Reception page.
what happens when there is a blizzard during your engagement photo shoot
Thanks to Darcy Kiefel for the great shots.
PS — slackers, please get your RSVPs in. Doesn’t Colorado look awesome?
RSVP
As our RSVP deadline of June 1, 2012 approaches, we just wanted to send out a reminder that you can RSVP online at: http://rsvp.dananderingethitched.com/.
The link is also accesible from the banner at the top of the site ↑. Once on the page, just search for your party by last name and select the correct group. If you have any problems locating your party, please email us.
Even if you responded with a reply postcard (which we have loved receiving), we recommend that you check out the RSVP site, which will allow you to enter the name of any guests and to RSVP for all of the fun, pre-wedding activities, like guys night out, the casual Thursday afternoon volleyball party, and the Friday morning golf tournament. A full list of wedding events and details is available on the schedule page.
If you responded via reply postcard, we have inputted your responses into our database, so you should see your responses reflected on the website, but you will be able to edit your response, add comments, and RSVP for additional pre-wedding activities.
Again, if you have any problems at all, please email us.
What about the babies?
Though Erin’s Dad doesn’t believe in the “unique snowflake” theory of childrearing, we love little ones and youngins are welcome at the casual volleyball party in Aurora on Thursday afternoon.
For the wedding ceremony and reception, there are a number of child care options available. If you are traveling from out of town and need some help connecting with options, please contact mother-of-the-bride, Wanda Venters explaining your child care needs and she will help arrange something with you.
“Weekend Wedding”
“Your mom lives in San Francisco, your dad in Boston. Your sweetie’s parents are in Tulsa, you two live in Houston, and other friends and family are scattered all over the country. You’re the perfect candidates for a weekend wedding — a three-day affair that’ll make everyone glad they used their frequent-flier miles to come see you get hitched.” (From: The Knot Complete Guide to Weddings in the Real World).
While the cities are a bit off, I suppose the fact that our family and friends are scattered all over the country makes us good candidates for an extended affair. As everyone starts to plan their summer venture out to Colorado, we wanted to make sure that you know that there will likely be some activities starting as early as Wednesday evening and continuing until Sunday midday. We haven’t worked out all of the details yet (and to be honest, there is lots to plan), but we will be sure to keep you posted on the Schedule page. Please know that you are in no way obligated to attend all (or any) of the various events that will be scheduled around the wedding (we may not be at every event ourselves); we completely understand when vacation days are limited, and we know that everyone has busy lives. But we appreciate that many of you are planning to travel a long way for the event and we want to try to spend as much time with you as possible and to assure you that your time in Colorado will be full of fun outings that you can choose to attend.
Again, from The Knot: “With such a hot list of social opportunities on the weekend’s schedule, you’ve got to keep the folks informed. One option is a newsletter. A cooler option, for those with the skill, is a website.” Well, Dan brought the skill, so we will be using the second option in an effort not to overwhelm your inboxes. But, that does mean that you will need to check back here from time to time to stay in the loop, and no one wants to be out of the loop. If you want to be emailed every time we update the site, follow these steps.
Go to the bottom left of your screen, where you see this:
